PDF Specifications & Recommendations

Optimizing your PDF for the web before you publish it to Digital Catalogue will ensure the highest possible image quality and the most error free rendering of vector objects — in other words, the best presentation for your readers.

Please take following points into consideration when preparing your content for exporting:

File Details

  • Pdf file no bigger than 500 pages and up to 250MB file size
  • Image PPI (pixels per inch) should be 150, both for color and grayscale images
  • PDF is not “secured”

Page sizing

  • Pages cropped to size, no visible cutting lines
  • Consistent page size & dimensions
  • The PDF you upload must contain only single page because pages designed in spreads will not be accepted;

Images & Colours

  • RGB colour encoding
  • No hidden layers (e.g. No old text layers with other objects placed above)
  • Complex vector objects must be simplified or flattened (as bitmap)
  • InDesign effects such as drop-shadows, glow, special strokes, or transparency may not be fully supported
  • Important: Please take note that some colors on the printed version might differ slightly from the online version due to the physical composition of the paper.

Fonts

  • Embed all fonts in the PDF without "Identity - H" encoding
  • Text should be intact & vector
  • No outlines or bitmaps. (You should be able to highlight & copy the text on the PDF file)
