PDF Specifications & Recommendations
Optimizing your PDF for the web before you publish it to Digital Catalogue will ensure the highest possible image quality and the most error free rendering of vector objects — in other words, the best presentation for your readers.
Please take following points into consideration when preparing your content for exporting:
File Details
- Pdf file no bigger than 500 pages and up to 250MB file size
- Image PPI (pixels per inch) should be 150, both for color and grayscale images
- PDF is not “secured”
Page sizing
- Pages cropped to size, no visible cutting lines
- Consistent page size & dimensions
- The PDF you upload must contain only single page because pages designed in spreads will not be accepted;
Images & Colours
- RGB colour encoding
- No hidden layers (e.g. No old text layers with other objects placed above)
- Complex vector objects must be simplified or flattened (as bitmap)
- InDesign effects such as drop-shadows, glow, special strokes, or transparency may not be fully supported
- Important: Please take note that some colors on the printed version might differ slightly from the online version due to the physical composition of the paper.
Fonts
- Embed all fonts in the PDF without "Identity - H" encoding
- Text should be intact & vector
- No outlines or bitmaps. (You should be able to highlight & copy the text on the PDF file)
